Presenze as evidence of past lives.
Presenze as ethereal.
Presenze as absence.
Presenze plays with the binaries of presence and absence, appearance and immateriality,
historical forms and those of the afterlife.
The Presenze collection is a testimony of past lives, the evolution of obsolete objects. Within
these works, the glories of nineteenth-century Baroque structures are re-designed into
minimalistic shapes, and are characterised through its use of resin.
Studio Nucleo filtered obsolete names and experiences and re-worked old pieces of furniture
such as consoles, desks, bedside tables and fireplace chairs.
The furniture is both antique and contemporary, revived and
restored into new life. With the Presenze collection, Studio Nucleo created decorative ethereal objects
floating through space.
The series also manipulates lightness and weight, challenging the laws of gravity. The balance
is made even more precarious by the milkiness of the resin, permeable to light.
It is a fascination for the transition, from liquid to solid, from past to present. And the lack of
assemblage is one of the strong characteristics of Presenze: each cube is a fragment, giving
sense to the deconstruction.
The objects from other eras are in this sense apparitions ready to dissolve and split, in the
struggle between material and spirit. The cubes of five by five centimetres are cast in epoxy
resin and together create the objects. They are assembled by hand, giving balance between
body and space, where an individual fragment develops its own intensity – capable of capturing
light and gaze – beyond the function of the whole in the context of composition.
